Owner and Lead Designer
My name is Ellen, and I am the lead designer and owner of Ellen Thomas Event Design. Ever since I was a child, I have had a passion for planning events. When I was eight, my mother bought me the new Bride Barbie for making an A+ on my spelling test. I was obsessed with weddings because my sister and I had just recently posed for an ad for The Bridal Shop, a local wedding store in our hometown of Grenada, MS. I was so excited that I took her upstairs to my playroom, along with all the toilet tissue we had in our house, and created the perfect wedding reception for her. Our playroom looked like it had been toilet papered, but to me it was beautiful. My vision had come to life in the form of my Barbie's Dream Wedding.
During my time at the University of Mississippi, I honed my event planning skills in the Hospitality Management program. After graduating, I received an amazing opportunity to work for one of the top event planning companies in Nashville, TN. Although it was hard to leave my beloved Oxford, I set my sights on the big city for my next adventure. While living in Nashville, I planned weddings, corporate events, and music industry events for some of the top music labels and artists in the United States. Four years of living in Music City was a wild ride, but my passion and heart will always live in Oxford. I am so excited to be back in the place that has given me so much.
My motto is “more stress on me less stress on you.” I want my clients to enjoy every minute of their event and not worry about the logistics. For me, the details are key when planning an event, and it is important to me that my clients are happy every step of the way. When I begin planning an event, whether it is a company party, a child’s birthday, an anniversary, or even a wedding, I go in with the mindset that this is a big day in my client's life. No two clients are the same; therefore, no two events will ever be the same.
When I'm not planning events, you can most likely find me spending time with my friends and family! I also have an obsession with fur, and my favorite color is GOLD! New York is one of my favorite getaways, and I typically draw my design inspiration from fashion magazines!
